River to Rail: Madison in the Age of Steam

From early riverboats to Indiana’s first railroad, Madison was uniquely caught up in the age of steam. She rode the waves and rails of prosperity that steam had brought, then experienced loss at steam’s demise. Join us for the amazing story of Madison in the age of steam.

River to Rail websiteRiver to Rail was a joint project between the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library and the Jefferson County Historical Society. Between our two organizations we had a wealth of photographs and materials chronicling Madison’s boom days and how Madison directly contributed to the state’s early growth.

The project was funded through a federal LSTA grant. I acted as technology coordinator for the project establishing and overseeing best practices for scanning and metadata, overseeing material transfer between the organizations and developing the website elments. We utilized Textpattern for the project’s article content and ContentDM for the image archives.
